Fashion’s invisible woman
April 26, 2009

The average American woman is size 14. Why is the fashion industry still pretending she doesn’t exist?*
One of the City Suitcase partners was at work showing her colleagues the new site. Several of the women raised an eyebrow and said, “Your site is for skinny girls.” And for the record, we aren’t. Each of us have our own body image issues and concerns. But it did remind us to use a wide range of photos. We pull images from the web and unfortunately, they are of models, most of whom are ‘skinny girls’.
It has also reaffirmed our mantra; …City Suitcase enables women to be confident, comfortable and in style wherever they travel. We all want to feel good when we walk out the door, whatever size we are. City Suitcase shows you what is appropriate for different cities and venues. Take that information and cater it to you. For the most part, we know what we feel comfortable wearing AND what looks good on us. Yes, short shorts may be “in” but not everyone should be wearing them. (which includes me!) We do our best to keep different body types in mind, but we are also reporting on what people are wearing right now in the different cities.
