Today I got a darling hobo for 50% off just because I asked if the purse was going to be going on sale any time soon! The saleslady replied, “You know, it will look fabulous with that tank you’re getting and I actually need the space, so I’ll let you have it for half.” My heart skipped a little, and I think I probably blushed.

Two weeks ago, a similar thing happened. I tried on a dress and fell in love. I knew it was going to take a small earthquake to get the dress out of my hand, but I played it cool. I had a little debate with my girlfriend, trying to talk myself out of it, and the store owner said, “Would it make the decision easier if I gave you 20% off?” Done.

Don’t forget that when you’re in a boutique, it’s a little different from shopping at Bloomingdales - there is some leeway in the pricing. If you feel uncomfortable asking for a discount, just think about what you could get with all those little tiny percents adding up!
