A surprise afoot
June 28, 2008

I was recently in Las Vegas and decided to hit the streets and do some shopping. It was a short walk from my hotel to the Forum Shops, and since the temperature outside was in the triple digits and I had just treated myself to a pedicure, I grabbed my trusty flip flops.
Truly, I was only on the street for about 5 minutes before entering commerce central, and I quickly located a fabulous pair of Dolce & Gabbana shoes in the store window and felt a little lucky, so I asked to try them on.
As I slipped off my flip flop in preparedness for my shoes to arrive, my heart stopped. The bottom outline of my foot was black!!! I could feel the blood rush to my cheeks. What was I going to do? Luckily the store was quite crowded, so I snuck away and ducked into the nearest restroom.
I had some antibacterial wipes in my purse (hey, it is Vegas), so I cleaned up my feet and went about my shopping day, but I did not go back to shoes.
Later, after a few drinks at a game of poker, I told my table what had happened. Two of the women said that was very common in Vegas and not to be embarrassed, the streets are just that dirty. Be forewarned!
